MANILA, Philippines — Ten of the 18 alleged bagmen of former lawmaker Zaldy Co, or the so-called “maleta boys” were arrested by the police on Friday after they failed to post bail over four counts of perjury.
Ten of them were read their Miranda Rights before they were taken into custody. Assistant Chief of Police for Operations of Las Piñas Police Lt. Col. Teoson Rosarito said that they will be released from custody once they post bail.
Three of the “maleta boys” successfully posted bail while the other one went to his province due to a death of a loved one. Meanwhile, the four others previously recanted their statements implicating President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and other government officials in receiving kickbacks from flood control projects.
