Human rights organisation, Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AfAW), has raised the alarm over the alleged abduction of a key court witness and the continued intimidation of victims in a trial-by-ordeal case pending before the Ebonyi State High Court.

In a petition dated August 6, 2026, and addressed to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Enugu, AfAW alleged that a suspect currently on court bail, Elom Monday, has been using armed men and local vigilante groups to target witnesses and victims involved in two ongoing lawsuits.

The petition, signed by AfAW National Director, Dr. Leo Igwe, was obtained by SaharaReporters on Friday.

According to the petition, the legal dispute involves Elom Monday and Pa Thomas Eze alongside his six children, and centres on allegations of malicious destruction and trial by ordeal arising from Ezza-Mgbo in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
