No fewer than 33 suspects, including high-profile traditional rulers and women from the Amasiri community, have been hauled before an Ebonyi State High Court sitting in Abakaliki over their alleged involvement in a bloody communal warfare that led to the gruesome beheading of four residents in a rival village.
The suspects were arraigned on Friday, May 29, 2026, on a severe four-count charge centering on conspiracy and murder, SaharaReporters has gathered.
The defendants, who are all indigenes of the Amasiri community in Afikpo Local Government Area, are being prosecuted for their roles in the violent invasion of Okporojo, a settlement in Oso-Edda, within the neighboring Edda Local Government Area of the state.
The prosecution stated that on January 29, 2026, the suspects invaded Okporojo and brutally murdered Kalu Dick, Ifeoma Oduko Uduma, Anthony Ekumankama, and Eze Orji Ndukwe. The offense is punishable under Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State 2009.
When the four-count charges were read before the court, all 33 suspects took their pleas and pleaded not guilty.
