MANILA, Philippines — The Chinese Embassy in Manila on Friday urged Philippine authorities to investigate the display of caskets bearing anti-China messages in parts of Metro Manila and ensure the security of Chinese diplomatic personnel.

In remarks released by the embassy, spokesperson Ji Lingpeng described the incident as “a blatant act of political provocation, personal attack, and intimidation and threat, of a most egregious nature.”

Ji said the embassy had made what it described as “solemn representations” to the Philippine government.
