An Edinburgh, Chaguanas, couple have been charged with the murder of 28-year-old Shayanna Ruiz, who was fatally stabbed during a confrontation at Edinburgh 500 South last week.Police confirmed the man and woman, both of Edinburgh, were expected to appear before the court yesterday to answer the charge.However, up to last night, no information was available on the outcome of the matter.Ruiz was stabbed on July 29 after going to a house at Plumbago Circular, Edinburgh 500 South, to collect $4,500 which was owed to her by a former boyfriend.According to investigators, an argument took place between Ruiz and the man before his current girlfriend allegedly became involved.Police alleged that during the altercation, the woman grabbed a knife and stabbed Ruiz multiple times before leaving the scene with the man.Ruiz was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where she was treated for multiple stab wounds. She died a short time later.A post-mortem examination found that she died from cardiopulmonary arrest secondary to multiple penetrating wounds.Crime scene investigators recovered a black-handled knife believed to have been used in the attack.—Alexander Bruzual
