Live music is my jam and there isn’t a week that goes by that I don’t watch at least two bands live. Sometimes I’ll watch three or four or even more. It’s like a little escape from whatever is going on outside those venue doors. It’s also an escape from what’s happening on the news, which is mostly filled with bad headlines, and even a tiny holiday from whatever is going on inside your own head.
They say laughter is the best medicine and I totally agree, but so is music. It’s one of the most important things in my life and it always has been. I think that’s true for many of us because music brings people together, not only as friends but as communities and even complete strangers. Put your hand up if you met your soulmate on a dance floor. Put your hand up if you shared your first kiss to a song you both loved, or even got married too because an artist you adored brought you together at a bar or a festival.
I’ve written about my love affair with music before, but this time it feels different. I’m struggling to find gigs to go to and I’m struggling a little to keep believing that our live music scene will find its feet again. Our community is small and, at times, it feels as though it’s getting smaller.
