A Ukrainian Artillery Officer Says a HIMARS Target Must Be Worth the Missile Expended
Junior Lieutenant Herman, call sign "Kraft," joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine from civilian life, where he worked as a designer. He now commands a rocket artillery platoon in the 148th Separate Zhytomyr Artillery Brigade of the Air Assault Forces—currently the Armed Forces of Ukraine's most effective artillery brigade and one of the Defense Forces' elite units.
Over three years of military service, Herman has operated a wide range of weapons systems. He has flown Mavic reconnaissance drones, struck Russian forces with FPV drones, and fired the Soviet-designed Grad multiple launch rocket system (MLRS). Most recently, he transitioned to the American-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS).
In an interview with Ukrinform, "Kraft" discussed the HIMARS' capabilities and the types of targets his unit prioritizes.
