South African women are making steady progress in the race to build artificial intelligence (AI) skills

South African women are making steady progress in the race to build artificial intelligence (AI) skills, with new data showing more women are embracing AI tools in the workplace.

According to the latest Pnet Job Market Trends Report, women made up 32% of professionals listing AI skills on their CVs in July 2026, up from 25% in July 2023.

The report notes that women around the world have been slower than men to adopt AI at work. Research cited by Pnet found that 73% of women use AI in the workplace compared to 78% of men, while 27% of women use AI daily compared to 33% of men.

In South Africa, however, the report shows that more women are gaining AI skills.
