OneLegacy Sets New Record for Organs Transplanted
OneLegacy, the organ, eye, and tissue procurement organization serving seven counties in Southern California since 1977, set a new monthly record for July, enabling the transplantation of 210 lifesaving organs, thanks to the generosity of 71 donors and their families, and the expert coordination of dedicated medical teams.
This milestone reflects the strength of collaboration across Southern California's donation and transplantation community. Working around the clock, OneLegacy professionals honored each donor's final gift, helping ensure that as many organs as possible reached patients in need and giving more individuals a second chance at life.
"Behind every organ donation is a family whose compassion changed the future for someone they may never meet," said Blanca Cohen, Vice President of Donation Strategies & Partnerships at OneLegacy. "Our responsibility is to ensure every family is supported with dignity and care throughout the donation process. Their generosity is the reason more patients are receiving a second chance at life, and we respect the trust our donor families have instilled in us to honor this gift.”
Every day, OneLegacy works closely with local hospitals and trauma centers to improve the donation and transplantation process, which ultimately ensures more donors' gifts save lives. "Transplanting 210 organs in a single month is an extraordinary achievement and reflects the exceptional collaboration between OneLegacy, families, donor hospitals and transplant centers," said Lisa Stocks, Senior Vice President of Transplant Services at OneLegacy.
