Greece recorded record organ donation and transplant activity in 2025, according to a recent report by the National Transplant Organization. The year ended with 137 deceased donors, up 23% from 2024 and equivalent to 13.1 donors per million people, the highest figure on record.

Among 306 potential donors reported, family refusal was estimated at 30%, while families initiated donation discussions in 31% of completed donations. The report said 285 transplants came from deceased donors; adding 93 kidney and one liver transplant from living donors brought the total number of beneficiaries to a record 388. The organization said efforts must continue toward 200 deceased donors annually by 2030.
