The officers further claimed that virtually every administrative request requiring approval from senior officers attracts unofficial payments.
Some concerned junior officers of the Nigeria Police Force have alleged widespread corruption, extortion and poor welfare within the Force.
They accused senior officers of exploiting rank-and-file personnel through the sale of transfers and postings, diversion of operational allowances and forcing junior officers to fund basic policing activities from their personal incomes.
The officers, who spoke to SaharaReporters on Thursday under the condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation, called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Service Commission, the Minister of Police Affairs and the National Assembly Committees on Police to urgently investigate the allegations and implement reforms to improve the welfare of junior personnel.
According to the officers, corruption within the Force has become institutionalised across formations in the country with no exception, with junior personnel allegedly required to pay substantial sums before transfers, postings or administrative requests are approved.
