According to reports received by IranWire, Moein Mohammadi-Dehaj, a 39-year-old Baha’i resident of Yazd, has been sentenced by the Revolutionary Court of Yazd to a total of 16 years, 7 months, and 18 days in discretionary imprisonment, along with supplementary penalties.
Branch 1 of the Yazd Revolutionary Court sentenced Mohammadi-Dehaj under Article 500 of the Islamic Penal Code to 7 months and 16 days in prison on the charge of “propaganda against the system.” Under Article 500-Bis, he was further sentenced to 3 years, 6 months, and 1 day in prison, as well as a 10-year deprivation of social rights, for “deviant propaganda activity contrary to the sacred religion of Islam through the promotion of the Baha’i Faith.”
Additionally, under Article 4 of the Law on Increasing Espionage Penalties and Cooperation with the Zionist Regime and Hostile States, Mohammadi was sentenced to 12 years, 6 months, and 1 day in prison, along with a permanent ban from government and public services, on the charge of “media and propaganda actions against national security.”
If the sentences are upheld on appeal, the longest sentence of 12 years, 6 months, and 1 day will be enforceable under Iranian sentencing law. The rulings on the first two charges may be appealed within 20 days of notification, while the national security charge may be appealed before the Supreme Court within 10 days.
