According to information received by IranWire, Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolghasem Salavati, has sentenced Shideh Tavakoli, a Baha’i citizen residing in Tehran, to 11 years in prison, cash fines, a permanent ban from public and government service, and the confiscation of a portion of her property.
Under the verdict, the Baha’i citizen was sentenced to 10 years in prison, a fine of 3.3 billion rials, and a permanent ban from working in the public and government sectors on charges of “membership in groups hostile to the regime” and “educational and propaganda activities contrary to Islamic Sharia.” The court additionally sentenced her to one year in prison on the charge of “propaganda against the regime.”
The Baha’i International Community (BIC) news bulletin also reported that, in addition to the aforementioned penalties, the court ordered the seizure of part of Tavakoli’s property and assets. According to the report, the confiscated items include two laptops, four mobile phones, an external hard drive, flash drives, a video camera and its accessories, two printers, books and publications related to the Baha’i faith, jewellery featuring Baha’i symbols, foreign currency, and cash.
