A private van carrying schoolchildren toppled on Sattur-Virudhunagar highway at Soolakkarai on Thursday evening.

Six school-going minor kids were injured when a speeding van fell on to its side after hitting concrete blocks kept at a flyover construction site on Sattur-Virudhunagar highway at Soolakkarai on Thursday evening.The driver, Palaneeswaran (26) fled the scene.The police said that the van had picked up children upto the age of 14 from different schools and was proceeding near Armed Reserve Ground after taking a U-turn on the highway.The driver lost control of the van and the vehicle hit the blocks on the edge of the service road as deep pit had been dug up for construction of a flyover.While all the injured children were rushed to the Virudhunagar Government Medical College hospital, two of them were referred to Government Rajaji hospital.Soolakkarai police are on the lookout for the absconding driver.
