German authorities are preparing additional security measures at Leipzig Airport right after an explosive-laden drone was discovered near Ukrainian cargo aircraft supporting NATO airlift operations.
Leipzig is a key logistics hub for military supplies bound for Ukraine and has previously been targeted in suspected sabotage operations.
The drone was found on Wednesday near four Antonov freighters operating under NATO’s Strategic Airlift International Solution, or SALIS. The programme gives participating allies access to heavy transport capacity they do not possess themselves.
One of the cargo aircraft parked in the immediate vicinity of the drone had reportedly been carrying military ammunition and had landed in Leipzig shortly beforehand on a flight from France.
