A British businessman who admitted funnelling more than R2.6m in bribes to two senior Eskom managers to secure work at Kusile power station will not spend another day in prison.
Michael Lomas, 79, was handed 15 years' imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, in the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on Thursday after pleading guilty to fraud, theft and corruption.
The charges relate to the R1.4bn upgrade of the Kusile power station in Mpumalanga.
Lomas, who worked as a contractor to the utility, conceded that he had channelled bribes to Eskom bosses so that Tubular Construction Projects would land the work.
