According to a report by Reader's Digest, adult cats rarely meow to one another. Instead, they've developed meowing primarily as a way to communicate with people. Over thousands of years of domestication, cats learned that humans respond to vocal cues, whether that means filling a food bowl, opening a door, or offering a few well-deserved chin scratches. In other words, your cat has figured out that talking to you works.
