A community-driven food garden initiative in the Witzenberg area is improving food security and creating opportunities for unemployed residents, with social worker Neliswa Nomjana among 60 beneficiaries of the programme.
Funded by Perdekraal East Wind Farm, the project was launched during the Covid-19 pandemic and has since grown from 20 gardens to more than 90 across four communities, providing fresh, nutritious food to hundreds of families.
Nomjana, who works at Haven Night Shelter in Ceres, has used the training and support from the programme to revive the shelter's food garden, helping to supply fresh produce for daily meals while teaching gardening skills to unemployed clients.
