When people are suddenly hit by redundancy, Dee Walsh likens it to essentially going through the grief cycle.

Someone, usually other than them, has made a decision that will impact their life and they feel a mix of emotions including anger, sadness and fear,” said Dee, 56.

“They feel anger – ‘how dare you’ and ‘why have you picked me?’ And they also feel fear about what they are going to do next.

“Even the people who know they will be getting a really good redundancy package are facing a choice that they did not know they would have to make about what they will do now. Sometimes, with that choice comes a lot of anxiety and stress.”
