Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister P. Viswanathan conferred undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the convocation ceremony of Guru Shree Shantivijai (GSS) Jain College for Women on Monday, and delivered the convocation address.Mr. Viswanathan asked the graduates to take inspiration from accomplished women achievers and leaders such as Kalpana Chawla, Indira Gandhi, Indra Nooyi, andPresident Droupadi Murmu. “Education for men and women has come a long way and it is finally equal in our society today. The three years of college are just a beginning. As you graduate, you begin a new chapter in life by spreading your wings,” he said.“But as you are ready to fly high, don’t forget your classrooms, college, library, teachers and friends. This is the day your teachers and parents will be proudest of you because there is no other day like graduation day,” he said. He also spoke about the Jain principles of giving and sharing, and the need for students to develop decision-making skills that would benefit the society at large.Gautam Vaid, Secretary and Correspondent of the college, congratulated the new graduates and acknowledged their hard work in the welcome address.Principal M.K. Malathi presented the annual academic report and said a total of 432 students graduated, including 415 undergraduate and 12 postgraduate students, while nine students secured university ranks.
