The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the freezing of local government allocations to Osun State, describing the action as “political terrorism” and accusing the federal government of weaponising state institutions to penalise residents.
Bolaji Abdullahi, the national publicity secretary of the ADC, stated on Wednesday that President Bola Tinubu’s alleged “win-at-all-costs” approach poses a grave threat to Nigeria’s democracy and national stability.
Broad campaign of political intimidation alleged
The ADC stated that withholding local government funds forms part of a broader campaign of intimidation. According to the party, this campaign includes the continued occupation of local government councils by unelected All Progressives Congress (APC) loyalists, the arrest of opposition figures, the alleged deployment of political thugs backed by security agencies, and a coordinated effort to destabilise the state through federal institutions.
The dispute over Osun State local government allocations stems from a lingering leadership crisis across the state’s 30 local government councils. Conflicting court judgments over the status of elected council officials have fuelled the standoff, with the APC maintaining that its chairmen and councillors were reinstated by judicial rulings.
