District Election Officer and Collector S. Kandasamy inspected the first-level checking (FLC) of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to be used for the forthcoming urban and rural local body elections here on Wednesday (August 5, 2026).The district has received 4,400 new EVMs from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bengaluru, including 2,080 Control Units (CUs) and 2,380 Ballot Units (BUs) for use in the elections.The Unit Acceptance Test (UAT) and FLC, which began on Tuesday (August 4, 2026), will continue till August 7. The exercise is being carried out by district officials and engineers in the presence of BEL engineers.Officials are verifying the performance and technical integrity of the machines, including their voting and counting functions, to ensure that only fully functional EVMs, meeting the prescribed standards, are certified for use. The Collector said the verification is being conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission, with emphasis on transparency and adherence to the prescribed procedures. During the inspection, he reviewed the progress of the verification, the testing protocol and the security arrangements, and interacted with the officials overseeing the exercise.Ramesh Krishnan, Personal Assistant (Development) to the Collector, BEL engineers and other officials were present.
