Several political leaders in Coimbatore said the Tamil Nadu Budget presented on Wednesday (August 5) failed to meet the expectations of the public.According to former Coimbatore South BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, the Budget has proven to be a disappointment. Various schemes of the BJP-led government at the Centre, such as the rooftop solar power scheme, housing schemes, and entrepreneurship initiatives, have just been rebranded and announced as new initiatives.The budget has no announcements regarding the TVK’s electoral promises. “The TVK government’s first Budget lacks new schemes, fresh ideas, or visionary plans to shape the future of Tamil Nadu,” she said in a press release.E.R. Eswaran, general secretary of the Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (KMDK), said the first Budget of the TVK-led government failed to deliver the projects that the public anticipated. Funding for the announcement to link the rivers in the State was inadequate.“There is no mention of the Avinashi-Athikadavu project expansion, which was much awaited by the people of Kongu region,” he said. Similarly, the Budget did not mention the Coimbatore and Madurai metro rail projects.The Budget did not have any initiative to achieve the aim of $1.5 trillion economy by 2035. This is possible only if there are new industrial investments.After announcing that Tamil Nadu will march towards a drug-free State, the government has set a target to increase Tasmac’s revenue from ₹51,000 crore to ₹ 55,000 crore.
