The first finance budget of the newly formed government under the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam to be presented in the Assembly on Wednesday will provide a fresh vision for governance. Every department will move away from the “cut-and-paste” approach that characterised previous years’ Demand for Grants, State Minister for Public Works and Sports Development Aadhav Arjuna said on Monday.
“In the past, the Demand for Grants of each department would largely be a repetition of the previous year’s proposals. This year, it will not be so,” he said at a CII Infrastructure Summit 2026 held on Monday.
Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has directed all departments to ensure that every announcement made is implemented within a year, making delivery and accountability the central focus of the new government’s first full financial plan, he said.
The minister said the Budget would also have a strong focus on the youth, with Chief Minister Vijay personally holding the Youth Welfare portfolio. “Major announcements for the youth can be expected in this Budget,” he said.
Arjuna said Tamil Nadu needs to create more knowledge centres across the State to curb the migration of young people in search of education and employment opportunities elsewhere.
