The Asus ZenBook range has been the mainstream subject for Asus in the premium notebook segment for close to a decade now, and as a laptop which works well for both students, office users and customers of premium laptops. The ASUS ZenBook A14 powered by a Snapdragon chip landed on my desk for review, and I was curious to see whether its promise of exceptional battery life and ARM-powered performance could live up to the hype.DesignThe ZenBook A14 carries forward the understated, minimalist design language that has become synonymous with the ZenBook range. This time around, ASUS has introduced its Ceraluminum finish (ceramicised magnesium-aluminium alloy), which gives the chassis a reassuringly solid feel while retaining its lightweight nature. The Iceland Grey matte finish does an excellent job of keeping fingerprints and smudges to a minimum, helping the laptop maintain its clean, premium look even with regular use.Weighing just 0.99kg, the ASUS ZenBook A14 sets a benchmark for portability in the premium laptop segment. It feels remarkably light in daily use and slips into a backpack without adding noticeable weight. Having reviewed several metal and aluminium-built laptops in the past, the A14 stands out for striking an excellent balance between durability and portability, making it an ideal companion for students, professionals and frequent travellers alike.DisplayThe ASUS ZenBook A14 features a stunning 14-inch ASUS Lumina OLED display with a Full HD+ (1920 × 1200) resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The OLED panel delivers vibrant colours, deep blacks and excellent contrast, resulting in an immersive viewing experience. It also offers a 0.2ms response time, a 60Hz refresh rate, 400 nits of typical brightness, and up to 600 nits of HDR peak brightness, making it well-suited for entertainment, creative workloads, and professional use.The display was a lot like fine wine. Vibrant colours and deep blacks came to the fore while watching the Tamil dark comedy Con City on Netflix, where the golden hues of the set pieces and the cast’s skin tones came across particularly well on this display. That’s something I genuinely came to appreciate during my time with the laptop supporting long binge sessions on any web series on this screen. Sadly, for the price, ASUS has opted for a 60Hz panel. While this does not take much from the ZenBook A14 as an Ultrabook, it does prevent the display from feeling truly exceptional for gaming, content creation, and other visually intensive workloads, especially considering the premium price tag. SoundThe ASUS ZenBook A14 features dual super-linear speakers, which at first glance seem well-equipped for enjoying music, movies, and multimedia content. Sadda Haq from Rockstar might seem like an unlikely track to test the speakers, but it proved to be a solid benchmark. The laptop delivered a well-rounded soundstage with a good balance between vocals and instruments, particularly during the song’s high-energy moments. What stood out was the speaker system’s ability to maintain clarity even at higher volume levels. Vocals remained crisp, and the background instrumentation wasn’t drowned out as the volume increased. For those who enjoy unwinding with music, web series, or movies, the ZenBook A14 speakers are more than capable of delivering an enjoyable listening experience. PortsThe ASUS ZenBook A14 offers a versatile selection of ports that cater to most productivity and connectivity needs. On the left side, the laptop houses two USB 4.0 Gen 3 Type-C ports, supporting data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps, DisplayPort output, and Power Delivery charging. There is also an HDMI 2.1 port for connecting external displays and a 3.5mm combo audio jack for headphones and headsets.On the right side, ASUS has included a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port with data transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of peripherals, accessories, and storage devices. While the overall port selection is adequate for a modern ultraportable, the addition of a USB-C port on the right side would have improved convenience and flexibility, particularly when connecting external displays, docking stations, or chargers from either side of the laptop.Performance At the heart of the ZenBook A14 review unit is Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon X Elite X2E88100 processor, featuring 18 cores and 18 threads. Paired with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, the ZenBook A14 proves itself to be a highly capable Ultrabook within ASUS’ Snapdragon-powered line-up. ASUS also offers variants powered by the Snapdragon X1-26-100 processor (30MB cache, up to 2.97GHz, 8 cores and 8 threads), which should be well-suited to students and collegegoers looking for a balance between performance and affordability.In synthetic benchmarks, the ZenBook A14 posted impressive results. In Cinebench 2026, it scored 572 points in the CPU Single Thread test, placing it eighth in the rankings, while its CPU Multi Thread score of 4,847 points secured fifth place. More notably, it outperformed several desktop-class processors, including the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX, highlighting the level of performance Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite platform is capable of delivering in a thin-and-light form factor.I was also able to squeeze in some gaming with Counterstrike 2, and the ZenBook A14 managed to hold a steady 60fps with minimal frame drops. Thermal management was equally impressive, with the laptop remaining cool and quiet during everyday tasks. Even under sustained workloads and stress tests, fan noise was kept well under control and was only mildly audible.Using Adobe Premiere Pro, I exported a 14-minute interview video containing B-roll footage and After Effects compositions in under five minutes at half-resolution preview settings. This makes the ASUS ZenBook A14 a surprisingly capable machine for editing 1080p content on the move, and a compelling option for content creators, journalists and professionals who prefer to travel light without sacrificing productivity.BatteryThe ASUS ZenBook A14 is powered by a 70Wh Li-ion battery, and battery life is easily one of the laptop’s strongest attributes. In my usage, which included web browsing, video streaming, music playback and light social media management, the laptop consistently delivered between 15 and 17 hours on a single charge. With lighter workloads focused primarily on browsing and document work, I was able to push battery life closer to 23 to 24 hours.Given how much I enjoyed the display, a fair amount of my time with the ZenBook A14 was spent editing videos. Even under these more demanding conditions, the laptop managed a little over four hours to five hours of runtime, making it a capable option for creators who need to work on the move.Charging speeds were equally respectable. The bundled 100W charger took the battery from 0 to 100 per cent in roughly two hours. The ZenBook A14 also supports fast charging, allowing it to reach around 60 per cent in under an hour, making quick top-ups convenient when time is limited.VerdictThe ASUS ZenBook A14 showcases the strengths of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite platform, combining strong performance with excellent battery life, a premium build, and a vibrant OLED display. While the 60Hz panel and the relatively high asking price for an ARM-based laptop may give some buyers pause, they do little to detract from the overall experience.
