The Asus Zenbook A16 is a premium thin and light laptop with a 16 inch display, a 70 Wh battery, and a body that weighs less than 3 pounds and measures 16.5mm (0.65″) thick.Asus introduced the laptop during CES in January and it went on sale in April. But at the time the only model available was a $1699 version with a 2880 x 1800 pixel, 120 Hz OLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme processor, and 48GB of onboard memory. Now Asus is introducing a few lower-cost options. The company hasn’t provided actual pricing details yet, but folks who want most of the features available from the highest-price version but might not need 48GB of RAM will soon be able to opt for a 24GB version. Given the high prices of RAM these days, that could help bring down the cost considerably, while still providing plenty of memory for most day to day tasks.Asus also plans to introduce a lower-cost version with a first-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon X (X1-26-100) octa-core processor, 32GB of RAM, and a 1920 x 1200, 60 Hz OLED screen. This model supports WiFi 6E and comes with a 68W USB Type-C power adapter (models with X2 series chips support WiFi 7 and come with a 130W USB Type-C charger). The specs for this new model should make it considerably cheaper… but with an entry-level, previous-gen Snapdragon X series processor, I still wonder if Asus will lower the price for this model enough to actually make it attractive. That said, all versions of the laptop have some premium features including OLED displays, a chassis made from a ceramic-like material that Asus calls “ceraluminum,” backlit keyboards with Precision touchpads, and a set of ports that includes:2 x USB4 Type-C ports (40 Gbps)1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A (10 Gbps)1 x HDMI 2.11 x 3.5mm audio1 x SD card readerOther features include an M.2 2280 slot populated by a PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, an FHD IR webcam, and six speakers.
