Phoenix police captain Luanne Emmanuel was accused of failing to remove a firearm from Kyle Inderlall, who shot his ex-girlfriend, Sasha Lee Monique Shah, pictured left, in 2022. Her mother, Jessica Shah, pictured right, has been fighting for accountability since then.

In a parliamentary session last week, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli faced scrutiny regarding Phoenix police captain Luanne Emmanuel, amid explosive allegations of collusion with drug dealers and failing to remove a firearm from a man who later killed his ex-girlfriend.

Ntuli responded to questions about Emmanuel after being questioned by Riona Gokul, the DA’s MP in the KZN Legislature.

It revealed troubling issues surrounding alleged policing practices at the Phoenix SAPS.

Emmanuel has a pending criminal matter that is being investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) related to her allegedly failing to remove a firearm from Kyle Inderlall, who was later charged for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Sasha Lee Monique Shah in October 2022.
