The National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) has secured a High Court order to preserve more than R6.2 million allegedly linked to an illegal live-streaming operation that distributed copyrighted MultiChoice content.
The order was granted by the Eastern Cape High Court in Gqeberha and relates to funds held in the bank account of Damian Grundlingh, a Despatch man who is under investigation for alleged cybercrime, fraud and copyright offences.
According to NPA regional spokesperson Luxolo Tyali, investigators believe Grundlingh had been running an illegal streaming service since at least October 2024.
Customers allegedly paid about R160 a month for access to pirated MultiChoice channels using access codes.
