South African Local Government Association president Bheke Stofile
The South African Local Government Association (Salga) will this week start convening Provincial Members Assemblies where municipalities will review the progress made in the local government sphere since the 2021 elections.
Salga president Bheke Stofile said the Provincial members Assemblies will be convened starting on Thursday in Cape Town for the Western Cape and for all provinces until September 10.
Stofile said the Provincial Members Assemblies were a gathering of member municipalities within each province and served as a strategic platform to review progress, address challenges and shape the future direction of local government.
“These assemblies will take stock of the progress made during the current term while preparing municipalities for a smooth transition into a new administration. The decisions and reflections emerging from the Provincial Members Assemblies will help strengthen local governance, reinforce accountability and ensure that communities continue to receive the services they deserve,” he said.
