The father and son are alleged to have argued over a cigarette.
A 32-year-old Free State man is set to appear in the Vredefort Magistrate’s Court following his arrest for allegedly murdering his 61-year-old father after a dispute over a cigarette at their home in Mokwallo.
Police arrested the suspect at his home shortly after responding to a complaint of an alleged assault in the Mapetla Section of Mokwallo on Sunday, August 2, at approximately 4:10 pm.
Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani said the man was arrested on a charge of murder.
“Vredefort police responded to a complaint of an alleged assault at a residence in the Mapetla Section of Mokwallo. Upon arrival, officers found the 61-year-old victim, identified as Mr Ndode Lenong, lying on a bed with head injuries and a swollen face. Police were informed that he had allegedly been assaulted by his son using an unknown object,” Rani said.
