CALASIAO, Pangasinan – Some 23 local government units in Ilocos Sur have suspended face-to-face classes on Wednesday due to stormy weather caused by southwest monsoon (habagat) and tropical cyclone “Maymay.”

The towns that suspended classes at all levels both in public and private schools are San Vicente, Sta. Catalina, Tagudin, Caoayan, San Esteban, Lidlidda, Sta. Lucia, Narvacan, Suyo, Santiago, Gregorio del Pilar, San Ildefonso, Bantay, San Emilio, Cabugao, Quirino, Sigay, Vigan City, Santa, Sugpon, Candon City, and Sto. Domingo.

Ilocos Sur is forecast to receive 100-200 mm of rainfall, which could cause numerous flooding events in urbanized, low-lying areas, or near rivers, the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in Weather Advisory No. 15 issued at 11 am.
