BEDC Electricity Plc has launched an investigation into an electrical incident that left one of its technical employees injured while carrying out maintenance operations on its distribution network in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The incident, according to the electricity distribution company, occurred at about 6:20 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, around the Ado-Poly Satellite Campus area while work was being undertaken on the 11kV Basiri Feeder following scheduled maintenance.
In a statement issued in Benin City and signed by the company’s Head of Branding and Corporate Communications, Evelyn Gbiwen, BEDC identified the injured employee as Akinyemi Bamidele, a Technical Linesman, who sustained burns to his arm and other parts of his body after receiving an electric shock during the operation.
The company said the staff member was immediately taken to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, where he is receiving medical attention.
BEDC disclosed that Bamidele is in a stable condition and responding positively to treatment, adding that the company is providing the necessary medical and welfare support throughout his recovery.
