Bulgaria is expected to receive another 109 million euros this week under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov said, adding that his goal is for the country to secure more than 90-95% of the available funds.
Speaking to bTV, Pekanov said Bulgaria has so far received slightly more than 70% of the money under the recovery plan. “My goal is to reach over 90%-95%. A lot of delays have accumulated over the years,” he said.
According to the deputy prime minister, the European Commission’s main concern was whether Bulgaria’s new political majority had the necessary commitment to implement anti-corruption reforms. He said that the adoption of key legislation within a short period had helped unlock the next payment.
“In just two weeks, both the Law on Counteracting Corruption among Persons Holding Public Office and the legislation related to the accountability of the Prosecutor General were adopted, which unlocks another 109 million euros that we will receive this week,” Pekanov said.
