The European Commission has transferred €896 million to Bulgaria under the fourth payment from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), following progress on a number of reforms and investments included in the country’s recovery plan.
The payment is part of more than €1.86 billion in RRF funds released by the Commission to Bulgaria, Belgium, Denmark and Slovenia under the NextGenerationEU program. Bulgaria’s fourth payment request, submitted on April 2, 2026, amounted to €1.1 billion and was partially approved by the Commission on June 18. The funds were released after the Council of the EU issued a positive opinion.
According to the European Commission, Bulgaria has achieved important milestones in areas including the rule of law, the business environment, renewable energy and sustainable transport.
Among the completed measures is the creation of a politically and financially independent Anti-Corruption Commission, along with the introduction of rules regulating lobbying activities.
The Commission also highlighted progress in expanding renewable energy use, with support provided to nearly 1,400 households to install solar water heating systems or photovoltaic installations.
