Thirteen passengers were injured after a private bus belonging to YMB Travels overturned near Telaprolu village in Krishna district in the early hours of Tuesday.According to the police, the accident occurred at around 2.30 a.m. on the national highway-16 when the overspeeding bus travelling from Chennai to Visakhapatnam, in a bid to overtake a vehicle ahead, hit the divider, climbed onto it and oveturned on the other side of the highway. In the aftermath, 13 of the total 25 passengers suffered injuries. They received first-aid at the Dr. Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Foundation and left for their respective destinations.Atkuru Sub-Inspector (SI) Lakshmi Narasimha Murthy told The Hindu that a case had been booked against the bus driver. He also flagged the delayed response from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), which hindered the road-clearing process, as the overturned bus remained on the highway till around 7.30 a.m.“We had asked for a crane from the NHAI officials to remove the bus, which was obstructing the traffic. However, there was no immediate response from them. Thankfully, no passenger was trapped under the bus. Otherwise, the delay on part of the officials would have resulted in serious injuries or even the death of a passenger,” Mr. Lakshmi Narasimha Murthy said, adding that he would also take it to the notice of higher officials.
