A total of 14 passengers were injured after a private bus travelling from Hyderabad to Eluru rammed into the rear of a lorry on the Gudibanda flyover near Kodad in Suryapet district in the early hours of Saturday (April 11, 2026).
The accident was reported between 4.45 a.m. and 4.50 a.m. on National Highway 65. The Intercity bus, which had departed from Hyderabad around 4 a.m., had 46 passengers at the time of the collision. Police said the lorry was travelling towards Vijayawada when the bus crashed into it from rear.
According to an official from the Kodad Town police, 14 passengers sustained minor injuries, including five women and nine men. All the injured were shifted to the Government Area Hospital in Kodad, where primary treatment was administered. Seven of the injured were discharged after first aid, while the remaining passengers are stated to be out of danger.
One of the passengers, a bank employee, suffered a nose fracture. A preliminary probe suggested that the bus driver was drowsy and likely fell asleep at the wheel, leading to the accident.
He has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway. Meanwhile, traffic on the highway was briefly disrupted and later cleared with the help of a crane.
