The office of Mojtaba Khamenei, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, issued a statement denying reports that Masoud Pezeshkian had been warned regarding a potential resignation. The statement was released a day after a video circulated featuring Mohammad-Baqer Kharrazi, who claimed that Pezeshkian had resigned or threatened to step down 28 times and that Mojtaba Khamenei had declared that any future resignation would be accepted.
In the statement published on Tuesday, August 4, Mojtaba Khamenei’s office, without directly naming Mohammad-Baqer Kharrazi, noted: “The content published in cyberspace, in which an individual made claims regarding the Supreme Leader’s response to the respected President’s letter, is completely false and contrary to reality.”
The statement further characterized the dissemination of such claims as “groundwork for distressing public opinion and creating division and strife within society.”
Mohammad-Baqer Kharrazi, Secretary-General of “Hezbollah of Iran” and an in-law of Mojtaba Khamenei, claimed in a video shared on social media on Monday that Masoud Pezeshkian had resigned or threatened to resign 28 times to date.
He claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei wrote in response: “If Pezeshkian resigns one more time, we will accept his resignation.” Kharrazi added that, following this warning, Pezeshkian and other administration officials refrained from raising the matter again.
