Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has pushed back against claims surrounding his departure from the presidency, stating that he will not resign and will remain in office.
On Tuesday, August 4, in an excerpt from an upcoming video address titled “Report to the People,” Pezeshkian stated, “If I intended to resign, I would officially announce it. I will not resign; I will stand.”
Pezeshkian claimed that rumors regarding his resignation were being circulated to sow division within the government. He added, “They want to create division; the Supreme Leader says one thing, and they claim another.”
These remarks came a day after Mohammad-Baqer Kharrazi, Secretary-General of “Hezbollah of Iran,” claimed that Pezeshkian had resigned or threatened to step down 28 times.
Kharrazi asserted, “The Supreme Leader wrote that if Pezeshkian resigns one more time, his resignation will be accepted.” Kharrazi claimed that this message was officially communicated to administration officials, after which Pezeshkian and other senior officials refrained from raising the issue again.
