An animal welfare society active in areas hit by a major wildfire west of Athens launched a public appeal Tuesday for people to temporarily host puppies rescued from the flames.
The Animal Welfare Association of Megara said in a Facebook post that many puppies have been brought to its emergency shelter at a local sports facility, mostly aged 2-4 months old.
It called for volunteers to take in puppies for a minimum four weeks, warning that they “simply can’t” be returned to burnt-out areas, and added that the animals’ transport to Athens could be arranged.
The group also appealed for donations to help the animals in its care.
