Denouncing the arrest of opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin, DMK party cadre staged road blockades in various parts of the Ramanathapuram district here on Tuesday.Mr. Udhayanidhi was arrested in Chennai for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Chief Minister C. Jospeh Vijay during a public meeting.Condemning his arrest, DMK members staged road blockade protests in various places across the Ramanathapuram district.In front of the Ramanathapuram Collectorate on the Rameswaram Highway, DMK District Secretary and MLA Katharbatcha Muthuramalingam led a road blockade. Following this, Kenikarai police arrested 75 people, including the MLA.Similarly, near the Ramanathapuram New Bus Stand, State Youth Wing Deputy Organiser Inbaragu led a road blockade where Municipal Chairman Karmegam, Vice Chairman Praveen Thangam, Union Secretaries Prabhakaran, Praveen, and other DMK members—totalling 75 people—were arrested.In Paramakudi, 50 people who staged a blockade led by Municipal Chairman Sethu Karunanithi, and those who staged a blockade in Sathirakudi led by Bogalur West Union Secretary Gunasekaran, were arrested.In Mudukulathur, 85 people, including Union Secretary Bhoopathimani, who engaged in the blockade, and those led by Central Union Secretary Shanmuganathan in Kamuthi, Union Secretary Jayapal in Sayalkudi, and Union Secretaries Arumugavel and Mayakrishnan in Kadaladi, were arrested.In R.S. Mangalam, police arrested 41 people who staged a blockade led by Union Secretary Mohan.Across the district, 554 people, including five women who participated in the blockade, were arrested and detained in wedding halls.
