Tribal organisations have called for a Statewide bandh across the Agency areas on August 8, demanding the immediate restoration of 100% reservation for Scheduled Tribes in the Scheduled Areas and measures to restore the benefits available under G.O. Ms. No. 3.Adivasi Girijana Sangham member P. Appalanarsa said the organisations were rejecting the State government’s proposal to constitute a High-Power Committee, alleging that it was a tactic to delay the resolution of long-pending tribal issues.The tribal leaders alleged that the government had already sought the views of tribal organisations at the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) and State levels through the Tribal Welfare Department but had not made the report public. Instead of implementing its recommendations, it was proposing another committee, which they termed unnecessary and unjustified.Appealing to tribal communities, youth organisations and people’s organisations to make the August 8 Agency bandh a success, the leaders said the protest was aimed at protecting tribal rights and safeguarding employment opportunities.Meanwhile, the Alluri Sitarama Raju district police have warned against any unlawful protests in the district between August 7 and 9.In a release, Superintendent of Police Tuhin Sinha said the police had received information that certain organisations and groups had called for public meetings, bandhs, rallies, dharnas and other protest programmes during the period.Mr. Sinha said no permission had been granted for any unlawful assemblies, rallies, road blockades, bandhs or other programmes that could disrupt public order in the district.He said obstructing public movement, forcibly closing government offices, educational institutions or commercial establishments, intimidating members of the public, damaging public or private property, or engaging in activities that disturbed peace and public order were unlawful acts. Any individual or organisation found indulging in such activities would face strict action in accordance with the law, he said.The Superintendent of Police said adequate security arrangements had been made across the district to maintain peace, public safety and law and order.
