A masked man robbed a septuagenarian of her gold ornaments at knife point after trespassing into her residence near Sulur in Coimbatore district late on Monday.The police said that an unidentified person robbed P. Annapoorani (77), a resident of Sithanaickenpalayam near Sulur, of her chain and two bangles.The incident took place around 9.m. when Annapoorani and her husband Palaniswami (87) were alone at their house located in a farm within the jurisdiction of the Sulur police station.The masked man barged into the house when the woman opened the rear door of the house. He held the woman at knife point from behind and threatened her to give cash from the almirah. Fearing that the robber might harm Mr. Palaniswami who was in another room, the woman told the trespasser that the almirah key was in the adjacent room.As the stranger dragged Ms. Annapoorani towards the room, a resident of the outhouse pressed the calling bell to give strung flowers. The woman suffered cuts on her three fingers from the knife pressed to her neck when she tried to protect herself.Sensing danger, the stranger fled the spot after taking away her chain and two bangles. The woman was rushed to a private hospital at Chinthamanipudur after she had blood loss. The Sulur police registered a case under Sections 309(6) and 329(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched an investigation.The police found out that the robber had purchased a knife from a store to commit the crime.
