SOME books leave an indelible mark on us. Long after the final page has been turned, we remember their themes, unforgettable characters, evocative settings and memorable lines that continue to echo in our minds. They become more than stories. They become companions, offering solace, provoking reflection and reminding us that we are never entirely alone in our struggles.

Personal testimony and life writing have emerged as one of the defining themes of the Durban International Book Fair, taking place from August 6 to 10 at the uMhlanga Apart Hotel.

Hosted by founder and organiser Anivesh Singh of Micromega Publications, this year's programme brings together authors whose works demonstrate the remarkable capacity of storytelling to heal and inspire.

According to Singh: "This year's line-up of books reveals the power of healing through storytelling."
