The Currie Cup remains one of South African rugby's most important proving grounds despite the rise of international competitions, and Sharks coach Mike Vowles believes this year's campaign will play a pivotal role in shaping the club’s future.
While silverware remains the ultimate goal, Vowles says the competition is equally valuable for rebuilding the careers of experienced players, accelerating the development of emerging talent and strengthening the Sharks’ depth for the United Rugby Championship.
"We take the Currie Cup very seriously," he said.
"In the South African rugby landscape, it's still a hugely prestigious competition. If you look at the resources invested in it, it's clear that many unions place a high value on it.
