The true crime documentary series has returned with a brand new series, and a brutal episode airs tonight09:02, 04 Aug 2026A harrowing true crime series perfect for fans of 24 Hours in Police Custody fans will air a brutal new episode tonight.‌Murder 24/7 has returned to BBC One for a brand new series as it delves into real life police investigations across the UK.‌Dubbed by viewers as being "better than 24 Hours in Police Custody", the new release has already been a huge hit with fans with new episodes airing every Tuesday and Wednesday at 9pm.‌Each episode follows a new case as detectives work around the clock in pursuit of justice as a synopsis teases: "In the pursuit of justice, every second counts. From the 999 call to conviction, via critical forensics and identifying suspects, follow the cases as they unfold - in real time."Tonight (August 4) a brand new episode will air that viewers will not want to miss. The first part of a two part special will plunge viewers back to 2025 when officers investigated a brutal murder in Hereford.‌Upon receiving a concerning call, two officers found 54-year-old Jamie Gawler dead in an armchair in a flat, with a towel draped over his face. However, post mortem results soon revealed a blunt force trauma to the head, neck and chest with almost every rib bone broken.An official BBC synopsis reads: "With no witnesses to the attack, detectives begin to piece together Jamie's final days. House-to-house enquiries establish that he had recently allowed a stranger to stay at his flat."A neighbour describes meeting the man, who she found to be charming and persuasive but left her with an uneasy feeling she couldn't quite place."‌As officers follow a financial data trial, their investigation soon leads them to South Wales where items belonging to the victim are found alongside bank cards in the name of Matthew Jonathan.After an arrest is made, officers soon discover a chilling tattoo on the suspect which reads "Natural Born Killer" as the BBC synopsis continued: " At his interview, he largely gives 'no comment' responses.‌"However, when analysts examine his phone, they uncover a video that stops everyone in their tracks and raises the possibility that Jamie may not have been his only victim that day."Part two is set to air tomorrow (Wednesday, August 5), with all episodes available to stream on BBC iPlayer after release.Praising the show, one person previously said: "Murder 24/7 is so much better than 24 hours in police custody.
