The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has launched an investigation into allegations that the k-word was used during an interschools rugby match between Fairmont High School and The Settlers High School at the weekend.
The department confirmed that video footage from Saturday's fixture will form part of its investigation after the alleged incident gained widespread attention on social media, the Cape Times reported.
A video circulating online shows the referee stopping play and calling for both coaches after the alleged racial slur.
"I think I need both coaches, there was a k-word going on here, I will not tolerate it. I will have to call the game unfortunately. I cannot be part of racism guys, you understand. Call the coaches for me," the referee is heard saying.
