An incident during an interschools rugby match has tongues wagging across Cape Town after a racial slur was allegedly used during the game on Saturday, August 1.
A rugby match between The Settlers High from Bellville and Fairmont High from Durbanville was abruptly halted on Saturday, August 1, after a racial slur was allegedly used.
The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage across Cape Town, occurred when a learner from Fairmont High reportedly directed the k-word at a player from The Settlers High. The referee intervened, stopping the game in response to the offensive language.
In footage of the game, which has since gone viral on social media, a voice can be heard saying: “I think I need both coaches here. There was a k-word going on here, and I won’t tolerate it. I am going to call the game, unfortunately. I can’t be part of racism, guys. Do you understand? Call the coaches for me”.
