The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has confirmed that video footage of an interschools rugby match between Fairmont High School and The Settlers High School will form part of an investigation following claims that the k-word was allegedly used.
The incident allegedly took place on Saturday during the match between the schools' rugby teams.
A video of the referee at the match calling on coaches to assist with the matter has been shared widely on social media.
He can be heard saying: “I think I need both coaches, there was a k-word going on here, I will not tolerate it. I will have to call the game unfortunately. I cannot be part of racism guys, you understand. Call the coaches for me.”
