Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday reviewed redevelopment projects across agricultural markets and said “modernising mandis (markets) is a priority of the government”.Chairing a review meeting on ongoing and proposed projects, Ms. Gupta said agricultural markets are a crucial link between farmers, traders and consumers. She said markets equipped with modern facilities and stronger infrastructure would improve trade efficiency. The government is regularly reviewing projects to ensure development work progressed according to schedule, she added. Ms. Gupta also reviewed the progress of the poultry market being developed on nearly 15 acres in Ghazipur at a cost of ₹193.29 crore. Construction began in March 2019 and is scheduled to be completed by December 31, 2026. According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), about 85% of the work has been completed, and the market will have shops for 100 wholesale traders and 120 processing units. The Chief Minister also reviewed the proposed flower market at the Integrated Freight Complex (IFC), Ghazipur. “Ten acres of land had been acquired from the Delhi Development Authority in 2001, and the modern flower market is planned to be developed in phases within the IFC Ghazipur complex,” stated the CMO. Donation centresMs. Gupta also inaugurated an ‘Arpan Kendra’, a donation centre for old clothes, at Punjabi Bagh West metro station. According to the CMO, the donation centres are being set up at 10 major metro stations. As part of the first phase, Arpan Kendras were launched at five metro stations: Shalimar Bagh, Punjabi Bagh West, Mayur Vihar Phase-1, Shahdara, and Rohini West.
