Daniel Valchev, dean of the Faculty of Law at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” has announced that he will not run in Bulgaria’s October 25 presidential elections.
Valchev made his decision public in an interview with Bulgarian National Television on Monday, saying that although his name had been mentioned in various political scenarios, he had decided to clarify his intentions earlier than originally planned.
“Since my name has also been thrown around in all sorts of configurations, my original plan was to announce in early September what I intended to do, but since there is too much talk about that, it seems right to say clearly what my intention is: I will not participate in the upcoming presidential elections either as president or as vice president,” Valchev said.
He explained that the decision was also influenced by personal considerations, noting that his family has always preferred to keep their private life away from public attention.
“This is also a matter of personal choice. My family has never been very keen about putting our private life on public display, not that we have anything to hide,” he added.
